Here’s something that we can all look forward to in the fall of 2016; Toyota has announced that the rugged, dependable Tacoma will rejoin the Toyota Racing Development (TRD) Pro Series lineup. The experts at TRD will add factory-installed off-road equipment to select Tacoma models to make them more capable than ever when they leave the pavement.
The TRD Pro Series package is geared towards extreme off-roading enthusiasts who challenge themselves and their trucks in some of the harshest conditions on the planet. The TRD Pro Series has a proven off-road racing heritage with numerous victories in events such as the grueling Baja 1000 endurance races. The automaker plans to make the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro Series the new benchmark when it comes to off-road performance and durability.

TRD begins with an amazingly reliable Toyota 4X4 Double Cab Short Bed Tacoma pickup and makes it not only perform better but also look tougher. It will be offered in three exterior colors; Cement, Barcelona Red Metallic, and Super White. Each Tacoma TRD Pro will also get a heritage-inspired TOYOTA grille with color-keyed surround, a TRD Pro aluminum front skid plate, a blacked out hood scoop with special graphics, color-coded power sideview mirrors (with turn signal indicators), color-keyed outside door handles, black fender flares, and a color-keyed rear bumper. Projector beam headlights with black bezels, LED daytime running lamps, and taillights with black bezels give the Tacoma TRD Pro a touch of functional modernism and Rigid Industries LED Fog Lamps provide that extra lighting required for serious off-road conditions. TRD Pro badging on the tail gate and front doors (in a diamond pattern with knurled finish) make the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro unmistakable in a crowd and a set of 16-inch TRD black alloy wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Kevlar reinforced tires tout the outstanding off-road prowess of this model without ever making a sound.
Interior
Just because you like to play in the dirt doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy the latest in convenience and technology. The 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro will offer leather trimmed, heated, four-way adjustable front seats with a specially designed TRD logo in each headrest, Entune premium audio with integrated navigation and an app suite, blind spot monitoring, a rear cross traffic alert system, TRD Pro floor mats and shifter knob, a leather trimmed tilting and telescoping steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth hands-free telephone controls, and a rear parking assist sonar system as standard equipment.

Making the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro more capable than the original was no easy chore but TRD is up to the task. At its heart is a potent 3.5-liter DOHC direct injected V6 gasoline engine mated to your choice of either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The specially tuned TRD exhaust system give the truck a deep sound that belies the 278hp capacity under the hood.
TRD tuned Fox 2.5 Internal Bypass shocks, TRD tuned front springs with an added 1-inch lift, and a TRD tuned progressive rate rear suspension give the Tacoma TRD Pro an added level of off-road capability that puts it head and shoulders above the competition.
The 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro should hit dealer showrooms in the fall of 2016.
