A million miles in fewer than 10 years is a lot of driving, and a 2007 Toyota Tundra proved that it was up to the job.

Toyota may not sell the most trucks, but Consumer Reports says they’re the most reliable, and Edmunds.com awarded them for their retained values.

Toyota customer Victor Sheppard of Houma, Louisiana, is a believer in these rankings.  He just traded in his used, but like-new 2007 Toyota Tundra for a new 2016 in an even swap.  That means Mr. Sheppard’s Tundra retained 100 percent of its value over nine years.  And one million miles.

Mr. Sheppard is a road warrior who has owned 16 Tundras, and it’s safe to say that your commute is nothing compared to his.  He regularly drives 125,000 miles per year as part of his job.

The 2007 Tundra has the original engine, transmission, and paint job.  The truck has been maintained by Greg LeBlanc Toyota.  Ron Weimer, general manager at the dealership, knows Mr. Sheppard and says, “Victor has been loyal to his maintenance and kept it up.”

The interior is also in great condition.  Mr. Sheppard says, “My truck looks great, and, except for a few little dents, it’s almost like new.  Even the seats look just as they were when I bought it. They’re not as clean, of course, but they’re not busted or worn out.”

Toyota was behind the even swap deal for this special Tundra.

“Having a million-mile truck in as pristine condition as this one with original parts is a truly rare find,” says Toyota’s chief truck engineer from Toyota Technical Center, Mike Sweers.

“Our team plans to tear down the entire truck, bumper-to-bumper, top-to-bottom to evaluate how the quality and safety we designed, engineered and built into the Tundra has held up to over one million miles of real-world driving and help us continue providing ever-better vehicles for our customers.”
